magnum photos
I stopped by the video library to return "Life through a lense" (documenting Annie Leibowitz's life and work) and came across a book of Magnum photography. After deciding it might not be polite to drool on books not mine, I came home and looked up a few photographers on the site. It is well worth a visit, with an amazing diversity of porfolios.
I read about Cartier Bressons concept of "the decisive moment" - in his words; "the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as the precise organization of forms which gives that event its proper expression." His uncanny, almost prophetic ability to predict what was about to happen and capture it as it was unfolding rendered the most poetic of images.

place : double eye, Berlin
running a good race
One of the great things about city life is that something interesting is always just around the corner... this Sunday it was the Berlin Marathon. Being more of an artistic type I've never really been swept off my feet by any sporting event. Yesterday, however, was different. I heard cheering, and looked over the balcony to see the first hand-bikes racing by, driven by paraplegic and amputee athletes. A little bit later, cheers grew louder and I peeked again, this time to see the first runners, led by Haile Gebrselassie, making it just past the half point. I quickly grabbed my keys and camera, and ran out the door. I found myself following a good part of the route, and then heading over to the finish lines, just beyond the Brandenburg gate. Over 40,000 runners participated, and it seemed like all of Berlin was there to cheer them on; Drummers, DJ's, flag wavers, and even a wind orchestra at the half point. It seemed like everyone was swept way in the excitement. What made me drop everything and spend my morning watching temporarily insane people run an infamous race? It seems that somehow the marathon, with it's ethos of endurance and perseverance is something that everyone identifies with in someway or another.

Dip an apple in some honey! I'm in Berlin for some New Year's celebrations, which means serious eating among other festivities. I'm baking a cake, going to some concerts, and of course, hitting the flea markets... shana tova!

disclaimer , collages and short stories
So I've had a rather nasty habit for quite some time now-
turns out I've been clicking "save image" faster than you can blink, resulting in hundreds of hoarded photos who's source I haven't the slightest clue about...

not nice.
However, it does seem a pity to let them just sit here, gathering dust. And so her and there,I'll present cyberspace with my humble offerings - results of my collage fetish. These are not about the specifics anyways, more of an abstract vibe. Images that seem to belong together in the same story. Maybe that's a good thing. I think that sometimes the whole design blog realm encourages hyper-consumerism instead of creativity. Just buy a-b-c to get the look, instead of forcing us to figure out why we like something, why things work together etc...
That said, I will mend my ways and start labeling my images.

re-post
So I think the lovely lady from yesterday(upper right corner)deserves a re-post.
First of all because of her legs, and second , because I think she's wearing a COS skirt that I've been trying to hunt down with no success...

otomi fabric headboard
I just saw this fantastic DIY upholstered headboard at design*sponge.
The material is handmade by the Otomi Indians in Central America-incidentally,I've been stalking this embroidery pretty regularly at a neighborhood shop that carries all sorts of different south american textiles, all irresistible.

got my liver
a few items I might be needing for fall.
when I feel greedy*, I hum to myself my favorite lines
from "ain't got no" - sung unforgettably by nina simone:
"Ain't got no home, ain't got no shoes Ain't got no money, ain't got no class Ain't got no skirts, ain't got no sweaters Ain't got no faith, ain't got no beard Ain't got no mind...
I got my arms, I got my hands I got my fingers,
Got my legs I got my feet,I got my toes
I got my liver,
Got my blood I've got life, I've got my freedom I've got the life"
Got my legs I got my feet,I got my toes
I got my liver,
Got my blood I've got life, I've got my freedom I've got the life"
